Staying Sheila Strong!
Join me as I walk to make a difference in the lives of cancer patients!
The ProHealth Care Walks for Cancer raise funds to make the best and latest cancer treatments, technology and support available right here in Waukesha County. I have personally benefited from the money that has been raised in the past, and still today. I've been very blessed to have had an outstanding medical team and to have all the resources I've needed right here in Waukesha County.
This summer I will be celebrating being 5 years from diagnosis. One of the goals Dr. Hake had for me was making it to my 5 year mark without reoccurance. Well, we are almost there! I'm still on 6 month checkups and just seen Dr. Hake in February. Only a few things came up on my bloodwork that we are working on, so I started on iron supplements twice a day and need to keep trying to pump myself full of fluids. Hoping that helps with the fatigue I've been having. I did have another MRI scan to see if there was anything going on from all my headaches, luckily everything came back clear from the scan. I will still be taking Tamoxifen for another 5 years. Tamoxifen is a hormonal therapy medicine that helps reduce the risk of breast cancer coming back by 30% to 50% in premenopausal women and helps reduce the risk of a new cancer developing. I still have cording in my left armpit and numbness, but is something I've been able to manage.
